18-year-old killed in Friday night Urbana shooting

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — An 18-year-old is dead following a shooting in Urbana Friday night.

The shooting happened at Vawter and Silver Streets at 8:22 p.m. Officials from the Urbana Police Department said officers responded to that location for a report of a shooting with injuries and they found the teen with multiple gunshot wounds. After officers administered first aid and life-saving measures, the teen was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and officers are still canvassing the area, looking for witnesses and video footage that may assist in the investigation. Anyone who has security cameras outside their homes at Vawter and Silver is encouraged to contact the Urbana Police Department.
