In Spartanburg County, South Carolina, a 19-year-old has been denied bond following charges related to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend on Tuesday night.
According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Jayvion Nyrek Rice faces charges of murder and the illegal use of a firearm during a violent incident. The victim, 21-year-old Skyy Ernestasjah Logan, was shot at a residence located on Farm Creek Road in Inman.
Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after 9 p.m., prompted by an emergency call from Rice’s mother.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered Logan on the front porch, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was quickly transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries just after 10 p.m.
Initially, the shooting was reported as accidental, with Rice claiming he had discharged the firearm recklessly inside the residence.
However, investigators noted that evidence from the scene and Rice’s account were inconsistent. Deputies then began investigating the shooting as a homicide.
Deputies said that Rice and Logan were in a relationship, with initial findings showing that a domestic situation was occurring at the time of the shooting.

During Rice’s bond hearing Wednesday, the judge informed him that if convicted, he could face 30 years or life in prison for Logan’s murder. His second charge carries a sentence of up to five years, unless he is sentenced to life without parole.
Before the hearing concluded, Assistant Solicitor Anthony Leibert asked the judge for Rice to be held without bond, sharing more details from investigators about what is believed to have happened.
“[Sky’s] three-year-old little boy was sitting on a couch after the shooting, calling out his mother’s name. He doesn’t know yet, he’s never going to see her again,” he said. “She was shot one time in the neck — in the chest area. [Video shows] blood spurting out of her body before she collapses and dies.”
Deputies asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Sgt. Will Ussery at (864) 503-4536 or wussery@spartanburgcounty.org.
