ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The atmosphere at University High School was one of tense alarm after a reported shooting scare led to an immediate lockdown. However, relief followed swiftly as deputies announced on Tuesday that they had apprehended the teenager behind the false alarm.
On Monday, Orange County deputies were alerted to a potential shooting at the high school, triggering a swift and substantial response from law enforcement. The call that sparked the chaos was later deemed to be a misguided prank after a thorough search of the campus revealed no threat.
By Tuesday, the sheriff’s office had identified and arrested a 14-year-old boy, accused of making the hoax 911 call that falsely reported an active shooter situation at the school. This incident highlights the serious consequences of such pranks, which can cause unnecessary panic and divert essential emergency services.

On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office revealed that a 14-year-old had been arrested for calling 911 to report an active shooter at the high school.
“That call elicited a massive law enforcement response — and those deputies could not be in their areas addressing real crime,” a release from the sheriff’s office reads. “All because someone thought it would be hilarious to call 911 and make up a story that is every parent’s and student’s nightmare.”
