TEUTOPOLIS, Ill. (WCIA) — Laurie Thompson, the head coach for the Teutopolis girls’ basketball team, has reached a significant milestone this season.
Thompson, the seasoned leader of the Wooden Shoes, has achieved over 500 wins in her career.
Despite her name being linked to this remarkable achievement, Coach Thompson attributes much of the program’s success to her assistant coaches.
“Having great colleagues is essential, and I’ve been fortunate to work with outstanding assistants. They’ve all been through the program themselves, so they truly understand what these girls are experiencing,” she explained.
The Shoes have kicked off their season with a perfect 10-0 record, marking their best start since the 2017-18 season. The seniors on the team appreciate the profound influence their head coach has had on their performance and growth.
“I just feel really honored to be able to play for her, she’s a great coach,” senior guard Anna Probst said. “She always knows what to tell us, and I’m really proud of her too.” “I think that’s really awesome, the dedication that she brings.”
