SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA)— A driver has been cited after a crash caused dead chickens to spill across Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County.

The SC Department of Transportation said the crash occurred Tuesday morning on the westbound lanes at mile marker 26 near Dorman High School. The South Spartanburg Fire District assisted with the crash, where officials said an extensive cleanup was needed.

All lanes were blocked for almost 12 hours.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, the driver fell asleep and ran into a cable barrier. The vehicle then overturned, causing the chicken carcasses it was hauling to spill across the interstate.

Firefighters shared photos with 7NEWS showing the single-vehicle crash with spilled contents across the interstate.

No injuries were reported, according to troopers.

SCHP said the driver was ticketed for driving too fast for the conditions.

The crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
