TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – State lawmakers made the final decision to extend the legislative session until June 6 right before the clock struck midnight on May 2nd, 2025.

The session was supposed to end Friday, May 2, but the House and Senate have not reached a deal on a budget plan.

Lawmakers will take the next week off to be back home in their districts, and then the budget conference will begin the week of May 12.

Senate President Ben Albritton (R-Waucula) shared a statement with 8 On Your Side, “There is no question we have more work to do. I’m pleased to share with you that we have reached a framework for a budget plan and a tentative schedule to move forward. Floridians expect and deserve a balanced budget that reduces state spending, lowers per capita spending, and reduces the growth of state bureaucracy.

As we discussed yesterday, you are free to return home to your districts and families next week. Please enjoy your time together and make the most of every moment. During that time, I expect that we will complete our work on allocations for the budget conference with the House. We are hopeful the budget conference will begin following Mother’s Day Weekend – the week of May 12th. I understand we have Senators who will have commitments away from Tallahassee during this time. Once allocations have been reached, we will publish a more detailed schedule. Again, thank you for your patience.”
