UNION, S.C. (WSPA) — A third individual has been implicated in a case involving food tampering at a Wendy’s restaurant located in Union.
Authorities revealed that 33-year-old Shadela Crystal Holley was taken into custody on Monday afternoon, charged with malicious tampering of human food.
Holley allegedly retrieved a food order from the trash, had it repackaged, and returned it to the unsuspecting customer.
Following her arrest, Holley was detained at the Union County Detention Center with bail set at $20,000.
The Union Police Department began investigating on June 2 after a customer reported her food order had been spat in at the restaurant on North Duncan Bypass.
According to a police report, on May 31, the customer ordered food at the drive-thru, encountered an issue, and asked for a refund after the food was taken back.
Staff told the woman her food was remade, and she left the restaurant.
While eating her order, the customer received a phone call from a Wendy’s employee who advised her not to eat the food. The caller said someone had spit in the customer’s food and removed it from a trash can before it was returned to her.
The customer then realized the remade food she received was her original order. She called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, who said the allegations were confirmed after speaking with employees and reviewing surveillance video.
The manager said employees involved were also written up for tampering with the food.
Police previously charged 19-year-old Trinity Lashell Rice and 23-year-old Aaliyah Shuntai Sanders with malicious tampering with human food in connection with the incident. Both were booked at the Union County Detention Center on a $20,000 bonds.
