LEESBURG, Fla. – Leesburg police have announced a third arrest in last year’s fatal shooting of an 87-year-old man.

Jasmine Gainey, 21, was arrested Thursday in connection to the Sept. 28, 2024 shooting that caused the death of Clarence Ervin, of Leesburg, investigators said.

Gainey faces charges of first-degree premeditated homicide and aggravated battery with a firearm on a victim over 65, the Leesburg Police Department said in a statement.

Gainey’s arrest follows that of two men who were booked in October 2024 in connection to the shooting.

Altogether, the three suspects are accused of approaching Ervin‘s vehicle — where he was sitting at a Citgo along West Main Street — before the shooting occurred. Police said that one of the suspects shot Ervin after a confrontation began.
