SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man is facing various charges, including vehicular homicide and DUI, after a fatal crash in Sullivan County on Monday.
According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling northbound on Highway 421 just before 4 a.m.
A passenger was hanging out of the window while the vehicle approached Shady Ford Road, THP reported. The vehicle then ran off the right side of the road and into the ditch.
While traveling through the ditch, the passenger, identified by police as Fatima Guadalupe Valenzuela-Flores, 21, reportedly fell out of the window and into the ditch.
Valenzuela-Flores reportedly died at the scene.
The driver, identified by THP as Jacob Dylan Chambers, 21, turned around and drove back onto Highway 421, passing the crash scene. He then drove across the bridge crossing South Holston Lake and parked on the right side of the road at the boat ramp parking lot.
Chambers was charged with the following, according to THP:
- Vehicular homicide
- DUI
- Driving on a suspended license
- Reckless endangerment
A second passenger was uninjured in the crash, THP stated.
