JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Officers with the Jacksonville Police Department responded to a “large disturbance” where an individual had fired “a handgun near the crowd,” over the weekend.
According to police, officers were dispatched to a parking lot near South Sandy St. after reports of gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they saw a large disturbance with multiple people.
Police learned that a large fight had broken out in the parking lot and an individual had fired a handgun near the crowd.
While on the scene, an officer attempted to make an arrest but was injured in the process. Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, South Jacksonville Police Department and Illinois State Police assisted.
Over the next few days, multiple people were arrested in connection with this incident:
- Monaezia McGee was arrested for mob action and released on a notice to appear
- Deirrea Burton was arrested with aggravated battery to a police officer and released on
a notice to appear - Marcquila Harris was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm and is being held pending a detention hearing.
