MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Mattoon Fire Department is investigating an house fire that displaced three people late Tuesday night.

The fire happened on Piatt Avenue close to the intersection with Logan Street. Jeff Hilligos, Mattoon’s Fire Chief said crews were dispatched at 11:10 p.m. and arrived six minutes later. They found heavy fire coming from the garage with the flames spreading to the home and three cars in the driveway.

There were two adults and a 17-year-old living in the home at the time of the fire, Hilligos said. All of them got out safely.

The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes and no one was hurt, but the home is considered uninhabitable due to the fire damage. The American Red Cross is assisting the three people who were living there.
