UNICOI, Tenn. (WJHL) — Three people were injured in a crash on Interstate 26 Saturday morning in Unicoi.

A crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said a 2007 Honda Civic was traveling in the left lane on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 30 at around 8:09 a.m. when the driver attempted to change lanes.

The Civic reportedly struck a 2015 Mazda 3, causing the Mazda to go into an uncontrolled spin.

“Upon doing so vehicle 1 contacted the rear driver side of vehicle 2,” the report states.

The Civic then overturned and rolled “multiple times”, according to the report. The vehicles both came to a rest with the drivers’ doors side by side in the middle of the eastbound lanes, the THP said.

The driver of the Mazda and a passenger were both injured, and both were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

The driver of the Civic was injured and was wearing a seat belt; he was charged with driving on a suspended license and financial responsibility, the report said.
