AUGUSTA, Ga. () — A young child of three years is on the mend following an early Sunday morning shooting in downtown Augusta.
While conducting a proactive patrol downtown, deputies heard multiple gunshots around 2:28 a.m. near the area of 10th Street between Broad and Ellis. Upon arrival, they witnessed people fleeing the scene and subsequently detained three individuals.
Shortly after, deputies encountered a woman at 9th and Greene Streets with a three-year-old child who had sustained a gunshot wound. The child was promptly transported to Wellstar for medical care.
According to investigators, the gunfire erupted amidst a confrontation between two groups in front of Tacocats, located on the 200 block of 10th Street. Thanks to their proximity, deputies were able to swiftly intervene and detain several individuals potentially involved in the incident.
Detectives are currently conducting interviews with the three detained individuals and the child’s mother. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities pledging to provide further details as they become available.
