BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) – On a perfect day for spectators and a typically warm one on the race track, Ty Gibbs claimed victory in the Food City 500, steering his No. 54 car to triumph on Sunday.

The event was kickstarted by Kane, Knox County’s Mayor and a WWE Hall of Fame Wrestler, who served as the grand marshal. Adding to the excitement, former University of Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs was present to wave the green flag, signaling the start of the race.

In the early part of the race, Kyle Larson, driving the No. 5 car, led the pack through Stage 1. He was closely followed by Christopher Bell in the No. 20, Ryan Blaney in the No. 12, Chase Briscoe in the No. 19, and Josh Berry in the No. 21, completing the top five.

As Stage 2 unfolded, Larson maintained his lead in the No. 5 car, with Blaney in the No. 12 still hot on his trail. The top five saw some reshuffling as Denny Hamlin in the No. 11 ascended to third place, followed by Carson Hocevar in the No. 77 and Chase Briscoe in the No. 19.

The race was fiercely contested, featuring nine cautions and approximately 13 lead changes. Drivers grappled with tire wear that led to several spinning out and even colliding with one another.

Ty Gibbs held off Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney late in the Food City 500 for his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory.

Gibbs becomes the 6th driver to get their first win at Bristol, he earns 59 points and currently sits 4th in points position.
