CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A snow-blanketed Gies Memorial Stadium witnessed Illinois triumph over Northwestern, securing the Land of Lincoln Hat Trophy with a 20-13 victory.

With nearly six inches of snow—the most recorded for any home game in the team’s history—fans and spirit programs huddled together, adding to the electrifying atmosphere. The Illini defense shone brightly with three interceptions and the offense secured two touchdowns.

Northwestern initially took the lead with a field goal, but Illinois quickly responded in the second quarter as Ca’Lil Valentine dashed into the end zone with a six-yard touchdown. Later, Kaden Feagin’s short-yardage touchdown pushed Illinois to a 14-10 halftime advantage.

Senior Miles Scott made his last home game memorable with two second-half interceptions, his first multi-pick performance, accompanied by Torrie Cox’s crucial interception late in the first half.

Under coach Bret Bielema, Illinois has reclaimed dominance in this rivalry, winning four out of the last five matchups after previously enduring six consecutive defeats before his arrival.

With a final regular season record of 8-4, Illinois awaits its bowl game fate. Illinois defeated South Carolina last season in the Citrus Bowl.
