SAVANNAH, Ga. — Wednesday was marked by mild temperatures, despite a predominantly overcast sky hanging over the region.

As the day progressed, the sky became increasingly clouded in anticipation of an incoming weather system set to deliver widespread showers to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry by Thursday.

Overnight, a few showers are expected to develop, though they are likely to be light and scattered.

As the night progresses, temperatures will drop, reaching their lowest in the upper 40s to lower 50s shortly after midnight.

The morning will see an increase in shower activity, with rain becoming more prevalent. By noon, temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 60s.

Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 60s to lower 70s for most locations. Rain chances will continue to increase through the afternoon.

The bulk of the rain in our area is expected during the evening. Rainfall will be heavy at times with totals for much of the area between 0.25″ and 0.75″.

While this will be beneficial rainfall, it will not be enough to chip away at the worsening drought significantly.

A few showers may linger into very early Friday morning, however drier conditions will set up as a cold front moves through the Coastal Empire and Lowcoutnry.

Friday afternoon is expected to be mostly sunny and mild. High temperatures will reach the upper 50s to lower 60s.

The dry and slightly cooler pattern will continue for the first part of the weekend. Saturday will be mainly sunny and mild with highs in the lower 60s.

Sunday will be mainly sunny and very warm. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

A weak front will move through Sunday evening and it will bring slightly cooler conditions for the early part of next week.

Christmas week will then start off with seasonably warm temperatures in the lower 60s, though conditions will gradually become warmer as the week progresses.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are expected to be very warm with afternoon highs in the lower 70s.

There is an off chance that a few spotty showers will develop. However, rain chances will be around 10% or less at this point.
