AUGUSTA, Ga. ()- The unofficial start of the summer vacation season is getting underway.

A lot of people will be making voluntary and involuntary stops.

There are some tips you may want to take before you make an involuntary stop.

Drivers are advised that before getting on the roads make sure to go to a mechanic shop or you can check the car battery, tire pressure, engine oil, and the wear and tear on your tires.

Always make sure that you wear your seatbelt, stay off your phone and do not drive impaired.

Most importantly follow the move over law, which protects officers, emergency responders, and other roadside workers by requiring drivers to either move over a lane or slow down when vehicles with flashing lights are stopped on the side of the road.

The spokesperson for AAA tells me that it’s important you follow safety laws.

“Making sure that you buckle up before you hit the road. Definitely, you know, don’t drive distracted because again, it’s about everyone getting to their destinations on time. And, you know, here in Georgia, as well as across the U.S., remember the move over law because AAA, we expect to rescue a lot of folks this weekend is very important to obey that move over law,” said Montrae Waiters.

If you’re feeling tired, just pullover on the side of the road or to a welcome center, take a walk around or just take a nap.
