The Storm Team 11 Forecast calls for a mild Tuesday afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. The high will be around 79 degrees. The current record at Tri-Cities stands at 81 degrees.

The wind will pick up out of the southwest by late afternoon. Gusts within the Tri-Cities could reach 25 mph.

Scattered breezy showers will move in after midnight tonight with mild overnight lows. The chance of rain will be 40%. Winds will be sustained out of the south at 10 to 15 with gusts up to 25 mph possible.

Scattered showers continue into Thursday morning along with the passage of a cold front. The high of 56 degrees will occur shortly after midnight. Temperatures will drop throughout the day to around 45 degrees.

It will also be breezy with winds out of the south sustained at 15 to 20. Gusts could reach 30 mph at times. Another batch of precipitation moves in by the afternoon. The mountains will see the transition over to some light snow by evening.


Snow showers will continue overnight Thursday with a low of 28 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The Tri-Cities may see a brief period of snow before the lower levels dry out. Accumulation is not expected outside of the mountains.

Mountain accumulation will be light and less than an inch for most. The highest peaks in our region like Roan Mountain could see up to 2 inches with the highest elevations of the Smokies receiving closer to 3 inches. The highest elevations across southwest Virginia could receive up to 1 inch.


Friday will feature a 20% chance of some lingering flurries with just a few passing clouds by the afternoon. The high will be 56 degrees. Partly cloudy skies are forecast for Friday night with a low of 33 degrees.

Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs approaching 63 degrees. A few passing clouds can be expected Saturday night with a low of 35 degrees.
Sunday will warm up a bit under partly cloudy skies. Another system arrives late Sunday night bringing a 50% chance of showers before midnight. The high will be 63 degrees. Rain locally heavy at times will continue overnight Sunday with a low of 43 degrees.

Rain will likely fall early Monday morning, with most showers moving out by late morning. The rest of the day will be partly cloudy, with a high of 58 degrees. The chance of rain is 60%.

Another weak system will bring a 30% chance of showers by next Tuesday. The high will be around 56 degrees.
