Job opportunities for recent college graduates can be strikingly different depending on their chosen field of study, and the majors with the highest unemployment rates might surprise you.

According to a new analysis by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which examined the employment outcomes for recent graduates across 73 different college majors in 2024, some unexpected fields ranked high in unemployment rates.

Anthropology graduates face the greatest challenges, with an unemployment rate of 7.9%, almost twice the overall unemployment rate of 4.2% for all majors. Closely following are fine arts graduates at 7.7%, and those in performing arts at 7.0%.
