POTOMAC, Ill. (WCIA) — One of the several tornadoes from Tuesday night’s storm touched down in Collison, near Potomac. While the majority of homes didn’t see anything beyond rain and strong winds, the Britton family wasn’t as lucky.

After the hail stopped and storm cleared, James and Brenda Britton walked out to see their driveway and front yard littered with about a dozen trees.

“I see them trees go down, the front ones, then I looked down the drive,” James said.

Decades-old trees toppled over and uprooted in front of the home they’ve lived in for almost 25 years. Miraculously, none of them hit their home, their camper or other property.

“We’re blessed,” Brenda said. “We’ve got two pretty new vehicles.”

As the clouds cleared, friends disguised as a clean-up crew didn’t hesitate lending a hand.

“[In] this little small town community, when things go wrong, they pull together,” Brenda said. “They come. They didn’t call, they just came.”

On the bright side, James has plans for the surplus of lumber.

“I burn wood, so I got plenty of wood,” he said.

While the clean-up process is ongoing, the couple said they’re hoping to live another 25 years in their family home untouched by storms.
