TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa International Airport will host the first of several community listening sessions ahead of the new Airside D expansion.
The sessions will allow community members to share their thoughts on what they would like to see at the new terminal.
Construction crews are hitting the ground running as they work on laying the foundation for the new Airside D. Now, airport officials want their travelers to weigh in on what to include in the new terminal.
“Tell us what they want to see, what are some of the amenities, do they want a quiet room, do they want a certain kind of restaurant, things like that,” said Joshua Gillin, Senior Manager of Communications at TPA.
Airside D has been in the works for more than a decade, breaking ground this past December.
Airport officials said the new addition is designed to help manage growth at TPA, by accommodating millions of new passengers.
“We’re expecting close to 39 million people by 2042, you know, that’s the kind of growth we’ve been seeing, especially post pandemic. So, the idea was that we needed gates to serve them,” Gillin said.
A listening session Wednesday night is aimed at getting feedback from Hillsborough County residents, two more meetings will be held to get input from neighbors in Pinellas and Pasco.
Airport officials hope to get every detail just right.
“It’ll be the first impression people have of the airport if they come in on that side and the last impression they’ll have before they leave,” Gillin said.
The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the event space located between Airsides E and F.
TPA will validate parking for anyone who attends.
The plan is for Airside D to be fully operational by late 2028.
