MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Moments after two people were struck by a vehicle traveling down Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, an employee at a nearby restaurant rushed to their aid and called 911, they told News13 on Monday.

“If you go there now, there’s still blood on the ground,” said the Angus Steakhouse worker who asked to remain anonymous. “It’s a very sad situation. You know, you’re just crossing the street, just going somewhere just carelessly disregards what’s happening.”

Myrtle Beach police on Sunday charged 39-year-old Bryan O’Neal Thomas with two counts of hit-and-run including one involving death. He remains at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

The victim, 26-year-old Dezhon Overton, was on vacation from Kansas City when he and another person were hit at the intersection of 21st Ave S. a little after 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The employee said she rushed to the scene and saw a man and woman lying on the pavement, gasping for air.

“When I went out there, there were two bodies on the floor. So I ran and one of my other employees started to direct traffic,” the worker said. “People were still trying to pass them to see what’s going on. So at that moment, I had to just be brave.”

Authorities have not identified the condition of the other person with Overton.
