Augusta Half Marathon to impact traffic on Saturday

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Augusta Half Marathon is set for this Saturday, and drivers in the area can anticipate some delays in traffic.

The half-marathon, in addition to the 10K and 5K races, will be held on Feb. 22 from 7 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Augusta University’s Summerville Campus. Traffic impacts will take place in and around Augusta, the Augusta Canal, Summerville and the Lakemont/Lake Olmstead area. 

The turn circle entrance off Walton Way/Fleming Avenue will be closed for the duration of the race from 4 a.m. to noon for the start & finish line. Several roads could also see one-way traffic, but are not expected to be closed. Here is the list of the affected streets:

  • Arsenal Road from Bellevue Avenue to McDowell Street
  • Helen Street from Arsenal Avenue to Peachtree Road
  • McDowell Street from Arsenal Avenue to Highland Avenue includes crossing Monte Sano
  • Laney Walker Blvd. from 9th Street to Druid Park Avenue
  • Highland Avenue from McDowell Street to Helen Street
  • Peachtree Road from Helen Street to Henry Street includes crossing Walton Way
  • Henry Street from Peachtree Road to Fleming Avenue
  • Fleming Avenue from Henry Street to Williams Street
  • Williams Street from Fleming Avenue to Johns Road
  • Katherine Street from Fleming Avenue to McDowell Street
  • Johns Road from Williams Street to Cumming Road
  • Cumming Road from Johns Road to Milledge Road
  • Milledge Road from McDowell Street to Broad Street
  • Overton Road
  • Morningside Drive
  • Terrace Road
  • Huntington Road
  • Brookside Road
  • Crestwood Drive
  • Broad Street from Milledge Road to Lakemont Drive
  • Lakemont Drive from Broad Street to LakeShore Loop
  • LakeShore Loop from Lakemont Drive to Milledge Road
  • Milledge Road from Lakeshore Loop to Lake Olmstead Stadium
  • Eve Street from Mill Village Trailhead to Broad Street
  • Broad Street from Eve Street to Greene Street
  • Greene Street from Broad Street to St. Sebastian Way
  • St. Sebastian Way from Greene Street to RA Dent Blvd.
  • RA Dent Blvd. from St. Sebastian Way to Laney Walker Blvd.
  • Laney Walker Blvd. from RA Dent Blvd. to Druid Park Ave. crossing 15 Street
  • Druid Park Avenue from Laney Walker Blvd. to Central Ave.
  • Central Avenue from Druid Park Avenue to Merry Street
  • Merry Street from Central Avenue to McDowell Street
  • McDowell Street from Merry Street to Lyle Road
  • Lyle Road from McDowell Street to Patrol Drive
  • Patrol Drive to Taylor Street

According to event organizers, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will reopen intersections as soon as the last runner has passed and expect to finish by 10 a.m.

Those would like to participate if they have not yet registered can do so at Fleet Feet Augusta, located on 229 Furys Ferry Road #107 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
