In Stanley, North Carolina, a tragic incident at a residence associated with NASCAR driver and team owner Denny Hamlin has left one person dead and another in critical condition following a significant fire, as reported by local authorities.
Emergency response teams from multiple fire departments converged on the scene just outside Charlotte around 6 p.m. on Sunday. The fire was intense, with images from the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department depicting towering flames engulfing the home as emergency crews worked diligently to contain the blaze. To facilitate the operation, at least one road was closed to ensure water tankers could access the area without hindrance.
According to Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department, two individuals who were outside the residence when first responders arrived were promptly transported to a hospital due to potential smoke inhalation. Unfortunately, Gaston County officials have since confirmed the passing of one of the individuals, while the other remains critically injured. Their identities have yet to be disclosed.

Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department confirmed to The Athletic that two people, who were outside the home when emergency responders arrived, were taken to the hospital for potential smoke inhalation.
Gaston County officials have since confirmed that one person has since died, while the other remains critically injured. Their identities have not been released.
Won One Real Estate, Hamlin’s real estate company, is listed as the owner of the property in public records, which includes a 3,724 square-foot house, according to The Athletic. Sources previously confirmed to Nexstar’s WJZY that the home was connected to Hamlin.
Toomey told The Athletic that while the home appeared to be a total loss, “some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff…was saved.” Footage from WJZY showed the site of the home still smoldering on Monday, with multiple older cars parked outside the now-charred frame of the structure.
Hamlin, 44, is a 60-time race winner and a three-time Daytona 500 champion. In addition to racing for Joe Gibbs Racing, Denny Hamlin co-owns 23XI Racing alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan.
He recently finished second overall in the NASCAR Cup Series after suffering a heartbreaking loss in the championship race last month.
