2 dead after boat overturns in Screven County

SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. () – Two are dead after a boat overturned on Wednesday in a pond off Poor Robin Road, Screven County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported.

SCSO announced on Wednesday evening that law enforcement responded to the scene and found one young adult male at the scene, around 12:45 p.m. He said that he had been in the boat fishing with two other young males when the boat overturned, an official said.

The male was treated on scene by Screven County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and released.

After a five-hour long search in 46-degree water, the bodies of two other young males were located in the pond.

There is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of these deaths, but SCSO said no foul play is suspected at this time.

Sheriff Norman Royal said that he sends his thoughts and prayers to the families of the two men and thanked all agencies that assisted who made the recovery possible.

The Screven County Fire, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Effingham County Fire, Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Screven County Marine Rescue Squadron and several local scuba divers were involved in the recovery and response, the release said.
