Two children killed when tree falls on home in western NC

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – Two children were reportedly killed early Sunday morning after a tree fell on their house in western North Carolina.

According to Connestee Fire Rescue, at 3:38 a.m. emergency Connestee Fire Rescue along with Transylvania County EMS were called to Okies Drive in Brevard after a tree fell onto the home.

At the scene firefighters located a single wide trailer with an approximately 3-foot-diameter uprooted tree through the center of the trailer.

The trailer was reportedly home to five people. Three of them were located by firefighters and reported two children trapped in their bedroom by the fallen tree. The fire department said the children, ages 11 and 13, were found under the tree and other debris but had succumbed to their injuries.

According to Connestee Fire Rescue, it took an additional three hours to cut the and lift the tree enough for firefighters to recover the bodies of the children.

Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Medical Examiners Office are handling the investigation into this matter.
