AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — On Wednesday evening, a severe collision involving a Nissan Altima and a Chevrolet Duramax truck prompted a swift response from the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

The accident occurred around 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Atomic Road and Silver Bluff Road.

According to authorities, the crash happened as the Nissan was attempting to make a turn onto Atomic Road from Silver Bluff Road.

Tragically, a passenger in the Nissan, 20-year-old Landis Garrett from Holly Hill, S.C., was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:10 p.m. due to blunt force injuries.

The driver and another passenger in the Nissan were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, while the driver of the truck escaped without serious harm.

The driver and another passenger in the Nissan were transported to the hospital in critical condition, no serious injuries reported to the driver of the truck.

The Coroner’s Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation.
