APOPKA, Fla. – Authorities have identified the three teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a rollover accident in Apopka early Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol released the names of the deceased: 17-year-olds Enrique Rodriguez Sabas and Julio Valdez Lopez, along with 13-year-old Leyner Velazquez.

The group was traveling in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with three other teens when the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. The vehicle veered off Welch Road near Wekiwa Drive, collided with a tree, and overturned, according to troopers.

The crash also resulted in serious injuries for the three other passengers—a 17-year-old who was driving, a 15-year-old, and a 14-year-old. They were promptly transported to a hospital for treatment.

Four of the teens were not wearing seatbelts, including two of the boys who died, according to a crash report.

Orange County School Board member Melissa Byrd said Sunday on social media that the teens attended Apopka High School and Kelly Park School K-8.

Orange County Public Schools said on Monday that families at Apopka High School and Kelly Park School were notified of the crash and that counselors are available on both campuses for students and staff.

An investigation is ongoing.
