AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Authorities in Richmond County are delving into two connected shooting incidents that unfolded on Tuesday, November 4th, tragically claiming one life.

Deputies were dispatched around 3:25 a.m. to the 3200 block of Heritage Circle in response to reports of gunfire and an injured individual.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered 22-year-old Taequan Caldwell with at least one gunshot wound. He was quickly taken to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center for medical care.

Early findings from the Criminal Investigations Division suggest that an argument erupted between Caldwell and 28-year-old Deunte Demario Myers, who resides on Deen Avenue, inside an apartment.

During the confrontation, Caldwell allegedly shot at Myers, prompting Myers to fire back, striking Caldwell.

No charges were filed at the scene. The case will be forwarded to the D.A.’s Office for review.

Later that morning, around 7:35 a.m., deputies responded to the 2700 block of Deen Avenue regarding another report of shots fired and a person being shot.

Deputies located Deunte Demario Myers, the same individual involved in the earlier incident, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was transported to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center where he later died at 8:13 a.m.

Tyrese Wesby

Following the investigation, warrants were issued for Tyrese Artavious Wesby, 21 years old, of Waynesboro, for murder and related charges.

Wesby turned himself in at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center Tuesday afternoon.

Richmond County Sheriff, Gino Brantlely, issued a statement regarding those shootings, “These incidents are a tragic reminder of how quickly disputes can escalate into violence. Our investigators are working diligently to determine the full circumstances surrounding both shootings. We extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Myers and ask the community to continue supporting one another while allowing the justice process to take its course. We remain committed to seeking the truth and ensuring accountability.”

Anyone with additional information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at (706) 821-1020 or Crime Stoppers at (706) 793-STOP.
