In a tragic incident on Saturday morning in Brevard County, Florida, two motorcyclists lost their lives following a collision with an SUV. This unfortunate event was confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at the junction of Micco Road and Babcock Street, precisely at 11:34 a.m., according to the authorities. The two motorcycles involved were identified as a Suzuki GSX1300RAL and a Honda CBR600RR. Both were heading eastward along Micco Road, just beyond Babcock Street when the accident took place.
Simultaneously, a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling in the opposite direction, westward on Micco Road, also east of Babcock Street. The collision between the motorcycles and the SUV resulted in the fatalities of the two men operating the motorcycles.
This incident marks a somber reminder of the risks associated with road travel and highlights the critical importance of vigilant driving practices. Further details are yet to be released as investigations continue to piece together the circumstances leading to this devastating accident.
The FHP said at the same time, a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on Micco Road, east of Babcock Street.
According to the FHP, the motorcycles were traveling above the posted speed limit.
Troopers said the SUV attempted to make a left turn into a private accessway and “entered the path” of the motorcycles.
As a result, both motorcycles struck the front of the SUV, causing both motorcycles to run off of the roadway right and catch fire.
According to the report, both motorcyclists were thrown from their vehicles and into a ditch. The drivers, identified as a 24-year-old Barefoot Bay man and a 19-year-old Barefoot Bay man, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the SUV, identified as a 71-year-old woman from Pennsylvania and a 79-year-old Wyoming man, respectively, suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
