Tragic Collision in Decatur: One Fatality in Early Morning Two-Vehicle Accident

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A tragic accident in Decatur claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman early Saturday morning following a collision involving two vehicles.

At around 2:48 a.m., officers from the Decatur Police Department responded to a report of a crash with injuries at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Main Street. Preliminary findings indicated that an International box truck was heading south on Main Street, proceeding through the intersection with a green light.

Meanwhile, a Ford Focus was traveling east on Grand Avenue and entered the intersection against a red light. The Ford failed to yield, resulting in a collision with the truck, which had the right of way under the traffic signal.

The driver of the International truck, a 68-year-old man from Rock Island, emerged unscathed from the incident. The Ford was driven by the 26-year-old Decatur woman who, tragically, did not survive. The vehicle also carried three passengers: a 22-year-old woman, a 24-year-old woman, and an 18-year-old woman.

The driver of the Ford was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The three passengers in the Ford were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Decatur Police said there are no indications that the driver of the truck was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They also said the toxicology results of the Ford driver are currently pending.

Members of the Decatur Police Department Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash. There is no further information at this time.
