Semi-trailer crashes into a van on Georgia highway, killing 7

JACKSON COUNTY, Georgia (AP) — A tragic accident unfolded on a Georgia highway Monday afternoon, claiming the lives of seven people. The fatal incident occurred when a semi-trailer collided with a van, igniting a fierce blaze, as reported by law enforcement officials.

The collision took place on Interstate 85 in Jackson County, roughly 62 miles (100 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta. According to Franka Young, spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the semi-trailer was tailgating a Dodge van when the crash occurred. Tragically, all seven individuals in the van perished at the scene.

This devastating event triggered a “chain reaction” crash involving four additional vehicles, as described by officials.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of the victims.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the accident, Young confirmed.
