In a heart-wrenching Facebook post early this morning, Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey announced the death of his son, Zachary, along with Zachary’s wife, Kelsey, and their two children in a helicopter crash in Montana.

Fortunately, the couple’s other son was not aboard the aircraft and is unharmed.

Aaron Del Mar, representing Darren Bailey, issued the following statement:
“On Wednesday evening, Darren and his wife, Cindy, were confronted with the devastating news that no parent should ever receive. Their beloved son, Zachary, his wife, Kelsey, and their children, Vada Rose, 12, and Samuel, 7, perished in a tragic helicopter crash in Montana.
Their surviving grandson, Finn, 10, was not on the helicopter and remains safe.
Darren and Cindy are overwhelmed by this unfathomable loss but are drawing strength from their faith, family, and the outpouring of prayers and support from those who care for them. The Baileys are deeply grateful for the compassion shown to them and request privacy as they navigate this difficult time, cherishing their loved ones.”

This is an ongoing story, and WCIA will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
