DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — A tragic incident unfolded at a Vrbo rental property in Champions Gate early Saturday morning, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old and injuries to two others. This occurred during a house party, as confirmed by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not yet made any arrests related to the shooting. The event took place shortly after 1 a.m. on Sommerset Hills Drive, where a significant gathering was underway.
Polk County detectives are actively pursuing leads in the investigation of this prom party shooting.
“There was probably at least 60 kids, 16, 17, 18,” observed Alicia Brown, another vacationer staying in the vicinity.
This incident marks the third shooting connected to house parties at short-term rental properties in Osceola County over the past seven months. The sheriff’s office reports that more than 600 violent crimes have occurred during similar gatherings.
“We were nervous. My husband and I, discussed for a while, if we were going to stay, if we were going to look for another place,” Brown said.
Both the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Sheriff’s Offices, which cover portions of the Davenport area, have committed to patrolling and shutting down illegal house parties, which often incorporate underage drinking, drugs, and violence.
