A tragic incident occurred at a Rivian warehouse in Normal, Illinois, on Thursday, resulting in the death of a man, as reported by local authorities.
Emergency responders from the Normal Fire Department were dispatched to the Rivian Automotive Warehouse on 301 W. Kerrick Road around 1:40 p.m., according to spokesperson Matt Swaney.
The victim was found critically injured, trapped between a semi-truck and the loading dock. Firefighters diligently worked for about 20 minutes to extricate the man from his precarious position.
Once liberated, the individual was urgently transported to Carle Bromenn Medical Center, still in critical condition.
Due to the grave nature of his injuries, a LifeFlight helicopter was called in; however, the situation demanded immediate transport by ambulance before the helicopter could arrive.
The McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder said he was pronounced dead at 2:33 p.m. The man’s identity is currently being withheld until his family is notified.
According to a statement from Rivian, the man was confirmed to be a contractor.
“Safety at our facilities is our top priority. Unfortunately, this afternoon, a contractor passed away after an incident at our warehouse. Our sympathy and thoughts are with the contractor’s family and friends. We are working with the Normal Police Department on its investigation.”
This incident remains under investigation by the Normal Police Department and the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
