GRANT-VALKARIA, Fla. – A tragic crash claimed the life of a Palm Bay man late Saturday night in Grant-Valkaria, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident took place at approximately 11:30 p.m. on U.S. 1. A Hyundai Tucson was heading north in the outer lane, just south of Valkaria Road, when the accident occurred.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s report, the Hyundai suddenly swerved to the left, hitting the raised median and losing its front left tire. The 26-year-old woman from Palm Bay behind the wheel struggled to regain control and steer the vehicle back into the northbound lanes.
The SUV crossed into the southbound inside lane, collided with a raised grass median, a plastic pole, and eventually the pavement’s edge. This series of impacts caused the SUV to overturn, ejecting a 27-year-old male passenger from Palm Bay. Authorities noted the man was not wearing a seat belt, while the driver was.
Both individuals were rushed to the hospital, where the man succumbed to his injuries. The woman sustained minor injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
