Tragic Johnson City Crash: One Fatality and Three Injured in Early Morning Collision

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning in downtown Johnson City, resulting in one fatality and three injuries when a car veered into a parking area opposite the Trek bicycle shop. This information was confirmed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) to News Channel 11.

The THP reported that the vehicle’s driver lost control, colliding with a curb before careening into the West Main Street parking lot. The car struck a lamp post and city signs before finally coming to a halt in a cluster of bushes at approximately 1:29 a.m.

Among those affected was 34-year-old Toby Cornett, who succumbed to his injuries, the THP revealed. Additionally, three others sustained injuries: a 22-year-old individual and two people aged 23.

According to a THP report obtained by News Channel 11, the vehicle was driven by 36-year-old Steven Kotsonis, who had two passengers with him at the time of the crash.

Authorities have stated that charges are currently pending as the investigation continues.
