Tragic Loss: Florida Firefighter’s Heroic Legacy Remembered After Fatal Car Accident

In a somber moment for Marion County and the broader Florida firefighting community, a heartfelt farewell is being bid to one of their own. Firefighter and EMT Evan Lewis, a dedicated member of Marion County Fire Rescue, tragically passed away following a car accident that occurred last weekend.

Marion County Fire Rescue shared the devastating news on Friday, confirming that Lewis succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the June 14 accident. Known not only for his service but also for his selflessness, Lewis was a registered organ donor. In a poignant decision, his family honored his wishes, facilitating the organ donation on Thursday, June 18.

To commemorate his ultimate act of generosity, an honor walk was organized at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered to pay tribute and celebrate the enduring legacy of life that Lewis left through his final gift.

“Evan dedicated his life to serving others,” Fire Chief James Banta said. “Even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, he continued that mission. In his last act of service, Evan saved multiple lives through his gifts as an organ donor. His compassion, dedication, and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten. We ask our community to keep Evan’s family, friends, and our Marion County Fire Rescue family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

MCFR said funeral and memorial services are still being finalized with Lewis’ family.
