Tragic Milford House Fire Claims One Life, Injures Fire Chief in Heroic Rescue Effort

A devastating house fire in Milford, Illinois, last week has tragically claimed the life of one individual, prompting both local and state authorities to launch an investigation.

According to Frank Hines, Chief of the Milford Fire Protection District, firefighters were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of North Grant and East Frederick Streets at approximately 10 p.m. on October 16. Upon arrival, they encountered a residence swallowed by flames.

Identified as Ashley Tucker from Milford, the sole individual found outside the burning home was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Iroquois County Coroner William Cheatum confirmed that Tucker was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, where, unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

Chief Hines, who also required medical attention the night of the incident, is currently on the mend. Fortunately, there were no additional casualties reported, he stated.

Now, officials are working to figure out how the fire started. The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating, but a spokesperson said that since this is an open and active investigation, they do not have any information to release at this time. WCIA also reached out to the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department for more information, but did not immediately receive a response back.

Hines said the home was a total loss.
