MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Tragedy struck in Marion County early Saturday morning when a motorhome flipped during a collision, resulting in the death of a 5-year-old boy and leaving 13 others severely injured, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and C.R. 316.
According to the crash report, the motorhome was heading north along U.S. 27, while an SUV was moving west on C.R. 316.
The collision between the two vehicles led to the motorhome overturning, causing significant injuries.
The SUV’s driver, a 25-year-old woman from Old Town, sustained critical injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
A 5-year-old boy in the motorhome was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the FHP. In addition, 12 occupants in the motorhome were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
