UPDATE: Coroner ID's 12-year-old Decatur boy killed in bicycle vs. car crash

UPDATE at 10:55 a.m.

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Macon County Coroner released the name of the 12-year-old boy killed in a bicycle vs. car crash Sunday evening in Decatur.

Coroner Michael D. Burkham identified him as Kavari Drisdell of Decatur.

There is no further information available at this time.


DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Decatur Sunday evening.

Officials with the Decatur Police Department said they responded to the crash around 5 p.m. Initial investigations show that the boy was riding his bicycle eastbound across N Van Dyke Street and W King Street when he was hit by the car, a 2011 Dodge Challenger.

The boy was transported via ambulance to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The car’s driver, a 45-year-old man from Decatur, was not hurt in the crash. He was arrested for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Causing Death.

Officials are continuing to investigate and therefore not releasing any more information at this time.
