POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities reported a fatality on Sunday following a fire that consumed a mobile home in Polk County.
Responding to the incident on Scenic View Street, Polk County Fire Rescue teams arrived to find the single-wide mobile home engulfed in flames, according to an official press release.
Firefighters swiftly tackled the blaze and gained entry into the residence, only to discover a deceased individual inside, as noted in the statement.
The identity of the deceased remains undisclosed, pending the notification of their next of kin, the release mentioned.
“Incidents like this are particularly challenging for everyone involved, especially when there’s a possibility of entrapment,” stated Fire Chief Shawn Smith. “Our initial crews faced intense fire conditions. They bravely entered the structure, attempting to locate any trapped occupants, and unfortunately found a victim who had succumbed to injuries. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the victim’s family and friends during this tough time,” he added.
No injuries to firefighters were reported and the incident is still being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, the release states.
