In a heart-wrenching development in Santa Rosa County, Florida, authorities have confirmed the tragic discovery of 14-year-old Danika Troy, whose body was found in a secluded wooded area near Kimberly Road. This grim find came just two days after she was reported missing by her family.

According to sheriff’s deputies, Danika’s body bore the signs of a horrific crime, having been severely burned and surrounded by shell casings. Although her remains were discovered on December 2, the extent of the burns necessitated an additional day for positive identification, which was completed on December 3.

The incident has left a profound impact on all involved, as expressed by Sheriff Bob Johnson. “Needless to say, not only was the person who found the body traumatized,” Sheriff Johnson stated, “our major crimes detectives are also deeply affected. It’s an unimaginable scene—no one wants to encounter a child who has been burned and shot.”

“Needless to say, not only the person who found the body was traumatized,” he said. “You know, our major crimes detectives have to see stuff like this. You know, you don’t want to go out and see a burnt child with bullet holes.”

Investigators said surveillance video and witness interviews helped them determine what happened in the hours before Troy was killed.

They believe the remote location was intentionally chosen.

“Here’s where it even gets worse. It’s bad enough you kill a 14-year-old, you’re 14, you’re 16, shoot her multiple times. Then they set her on fire,” Johnson said.

A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old have been arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder.

An arrest report said that one of the suspects and Troy had a falling out, and he had blocked her on social media.

The other suspect told detectives that Troy had “made hurtful comments to [suspect] about being worthless and a gang-banger, which upset him.”

One of the suspects was reportedly seen on surveillance camera sneaking back into his home on the night of the homicide.

Johnson said the case has left the department shaken and searching for answers.

“There’s not, right now, there’s not a clear motive, but I can tell you this, we’re going to be hopefully working with the State Attorney’s Office to get these individuals charged as adults,” Johnson said.

Anyone with information connected to Troy’s disappearance is asked to contact the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
