DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A local legend returned home to Danville, and he brought some big-name friends.

Former Danville Viking and current Denver Broncos wide receiver Trent Sherfield hosted a charity celebrity basketball game at Danville High School. He brought several familiar faces, including multiple NFL players and ex-Danville High School basketball icons. Pro Bowler Latavius Murray and Super Bowl Champion Prince Amukamara were amongst those in attendance.

The event raises money and awareness for his foundation: Diamonds Amongst the Rough.

“Trying to raise funds man to ultimately get to our end goal as a foundation: to build a sports facility right here in our hometown for our local youth,” Sherfield said. “And it is something that we started in 2018, and it started to kind of take off and kind of go on to bigger things that we’re looking to do.”

He said the event will return to Danville again next year. Sherfield also said Saturday would continue their work with a gala in Danville.
