Tri-Cities Kicks Off Saint Patrick’s Day Festivities Ahead of Schedule

TRI-CITIES, Tenn. (WJHL) – Tri-Cities was awash in shades of green and gold on Saturday as locals gathered to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with enthusiasm and cheer. The festive spirit was palpable throughout the day in both Jonesborough and Johnson City, where the community came together to honor the beloved Irish holiday.

Residents from across the region embraced the vibrant celebrations, whether they were first-time attendees or seasoned participants. The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie as people shared their love for the day dedicated to all things green.

“It was such a special day,” remarked one attendee. “I’ve actually experienced the Saint Paddy’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland, and I wouldn’t trade that for this for $1 million.”

In Jonesborough, known as Tennessee’s oldest town, the festivities commenced with a lively parade through the heart of downtown. The Clydesdale horses were a standout attraction, capturing the hearts of spectators. Following the parade, the streets buzzed with activity as visitors supported local vendors, admired highland cows, and soaked up the delightful weather.

Tennessee’s oldest town, Jonesborough, kicked off their Saint Patrick’s Day event with a parade right in the heart of downtown. A big hit from the event was the Clydesdale horses. After the parade, many had lined the street to support vendors, pet highland cows and just enjoyed the beautiful day.

“It’s all about fun and people and food and we just love it. We love everybody out here. It’s wonderful. And beer!,” said one person who attended.

But the fun didn’t stop there, it was happening all around the region Saturday.

Downtown Johnson City’s celebrated Main Street Days Saint Patrick’s Day event. Many enjoyed live music, food, drinks and photo-ops along the way.

“We started Main Street Days, in October of 2024. So this is our fifth one, I guess. So we do it every October. Now, every Saint Patrick’s Day,” said Lindsey Jones, the Main Street Director for Johnson City. “And it’s a big community event. It supports our small businesses and a lot of our local crafters, makers and artisans.”

Main Street Days Director Lindsey Jones said they expected to see over 10,000 people today with the nice weather. Jones said they plan to make Main Street Days better and better for the community each year.
