Trump reups attacks on Greene after retirement announcement: ‘Marjorie went BAD‘

President Trump intensified his criticism of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Saturday morning, shortly after she declared her intention to resign from Congress in January.

In an online post, Trump insinuated that Greene’s decision to step down was influenced by the withdrawal of his endorsement earlier this month. The move came amid escalating tensions between the two over various disagreements.

“Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, due to her PLUMMETING poll numbers and her reluctance to face a primary challenger armed with a strong Trump endorsement (which would leave her no chance of winning!), has decided to call it quits,” Trump stated on Truth Social, using a new moniker for the Georgia lawmaker.

The former president further criticized Greene by noting her association with what he described as the “WORST Republican Congressman in decades,” referring to Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky. Trump dubbed Massie as “Rand Paul Jr.” for opposing the Republican party on key legislation.

Despite his harsh words, Trump did acknowledge Greene’s previous support before their very public falling out.

“For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD,” he wrote. “Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!”

Greene, in a video and lengthy statement shared on social platform X, announced her plans to step down from the position as her public rift with Trump widens.

“I have too much self-respect and dignity… to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” she wrote.

The lawmaker also accused the president of trying to “destroy” her and called his previous comments about her “hurtful.”

“It’s all so absurd and completely unserious,” Greene continued. “I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better. If I am cast aside by MAGA Inc and replaced by Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Complex, foreign leaders, and the donor elite class that can’t even relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well.”

Greene said her last day will be Jan. 5.

Following her announcement, Trump praised it as “great news for the country.”

“I think she should be happy,” Trump told told ABC News.

The feud between Greene and Trump blew up after she and three other Republicans backed a discharge petition to force the House to vote on a bill that would order the Justice Department to release all of its files on the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump initially called the Epstein controversy a “hoax,” but later signed the legislation, after it passed through both chambers of Congress.

Greene has in recent weeks defended both her record of backing the president’s MAGA agenda and her stance on supporting Epstein’s victims and their families.

“The only thing that will speak to the powerful, courageous women behind me is when action is actually taken to release these files and the American people won’t tolerate any other bulls—,” she said Tuesday at a press conference alongside Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), who co-sponsored the resolution.

The lawmaker had also amped up her criticism of fellow Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), during the government shutdown. Greene lambasted Johnson for not offering a GOP alternative to the Affordable Care Act as health care insurance premiums rise.

On Saturday, she issued a statement to her supporters.

“I believe in the American people. You are stronger and more resilient than you know,” she wrote on X. “There are no leaders that will save this country, but YOU, the American people can.”

“If we all stitch our torn and tattered beautiful star spangled banner back together, we can do anything,” Greene added.
