WASHINGTON (AP) — On Monday, President Donald Trump will honor three U.S. Army soldiers with the Medal of Honor at the White House. Two of these prestigious awards will be granted posthumously.

Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Terry P. Richardson will receive this recognition for his heroic actions during the Vietnam War, which were instrumental in saving the lives of 85 fellow service members.

Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis, who made the ultimate sacrifice during combat in Afghanistan in 2013, will be honored for his extraordinary bravery that cost him his life.

Master Sgt. Roderick W. Edmonds, who passed away in 1985, will be acknowledged for his courageous leadership and resistance as a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II.

The Medal of Honor is the highest U.S. military decoration, awarded by presidents on behalf of Congress to recognize acts of valor that go far beyond the call of duty, often involving significant personal risk.
