WASHINGTON – In remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, President Donald Trump will commemorate the event at the Pentagon.
The plan was confirmed by Trump on Friday, with the White House announcing that Vice President JD Vance will be part of the New York ceremony, while other administration leaders will attend the service in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
This solemn milestone marks 25 years since al-Qaida’s coordinated hijackings, which tragically resulted in nearly 3,000 fatalities across three separate attack sites and significantly altered the course of U.S. foreign policy and national security strategies.
Upon returning from Houston on Friday, Trump, speaking near Air Force One, addressed questions from reporters about not attending the New York service, as some media had speculated. His response was direct: “Because I’m going to the Pentagon.”
In a message shared on social media Friday, Trump reflected on Sept. 11, calling it “a day to honor the victims and their wonderful families.”

Last year, Trump commemorated the anniversary at the annual Pentagon ceremony, where he delivered remarks recounting moments from the day, including snippets of conversations from passengers who were aboard the hijacked airplanes.
The president, who is originally from New York, last attended the ground zero ceremony in 2024.
Vance had planned to be in New York for the anniversary last year but instead flew to Salt Lake City to be with the family of Charlie Kirk after the conservative activist was assassinated.
