Two Carnival Cruise passengers died hours apart on Friday at the cruise line’s newest private resort, according to police.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force said a 79-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman were found unresponsive at Celebration Key.
Before noon on Friday, police said the man became unresponsive while snorkeling at the beach. A lifeguard pulled him from the water and administered CPR, but the man was later pronounced dead.
About two hours later, the woman became unresponsive while swimming in a pool and she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed on both passengers to determine their cause of death.
The $600 million facility on Grand Bahama Island opened last month. It can accommodate two ships at a time and we know one of them on Friday was the Mardi Gras that sailed from Port Canaveral.
Carnival Cruise Line issued a statement over the weekend saying in part, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and their families and our care team is providing assistance.”
An investigation is ongoing.
