BURTON, S.C. () — Officials responded to a fire Wednesday morning on Bay Pines Road that reportedly resulted in two adults being displaced and one transported to the hospital.

The person transported by Beaufort County EMS suffered from non-life threating injuries, the Burton Fire District (BFD) said.

When crews arrived on the scene after 9:30 a.m., a fire was burning from a side room of a double wide mobile home. The fire caused extensive damage to the residence.

BFD said the older resident did not have insurance and is asking for assistance. To help, please contact the Burton Fire District.

Officials learned that the home had no working smoke alarms. The BFD stressed the importance of smoke alarms and how they can not only enable residents to escape from a fire, but also alert residents when fires are still small. This can ultimately lead to less damages if caught early.
